Yesterday we got stuck with a problem in our code, which need to be delivered in a week. We tried several alternatives, but can’t find a possible solution.
We decided to skip that functionality and move on.
While driving home amidst heavy traffic, I found these simple words on the number plate of the vehicle in front,
Don’t take it easy. Just Make It Easy.
I don’t know why, but it went deep into my mind, kicking me from inside.
So after reaching home, I took some time to think how this can be applied to my problem.
Great. It worked like a magic. Here is what I did,
1. List down the current approach and the problem associated with it.
2. List possible alternatives to make it simple.
3. Pick the best of these alternatives.
4. Wipe down the first list and replace with the best alternatives.
5. Identify problems associated with these (if any), repeat step 1.
After a couple of hours, I was left with two simple alternatives to solve the problem. I applied both of them today and tested for the best one.
So the next time when your mind got freezed with any complex thing (an idea, a problem or something else), just relax and say to yourself,
Don’t take it easy. Just make it easy.
